ISSUES AND PRIORITIES

I am running for the position of Delegate of the 10th District to empower the residents of My District and the state of Maryland.

1. Senior Citizens

Senior citizens are the largest group of persons in the District and are underserved. Senior citizens are the most impacted by the high cost of life-sustaining medication and the lack of access to grocery stores.

2. Juvenile Justice and Delinquency, Prevention

The failure of the current system is due to the failure of the system to address the needs of the youthful offender early enough to curb crime. The Department of Juvenile Services has failed to meet the needs of youth and their families at the most critical time in the youth’s life to have a serious impact upon youth crime. The state must open more Youth Service Bureaus and extend full family counselling.

3. Taxes hidden as Fees

The state of Maryland can not expect citizens to remain in the state with the continuous scheme of taxes dressed up as fees.

4. Public Safety and Accountability

The Police Department and Emergency Services Departments in the county and the state are funded through taxes from the citizens. There needs to be a separate entity that has control over the release of street cameras and body cameras. I will lobby that any state funds to the Baltimore County Police and Fire Department require the County to create a new position called Police and Emergency Commissioner with oversight of the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief, with a public board and investigators.

5. Business and Infrastructure Development

The 10th District has historically suffered from the lack of imagination by the persons in public office who live on the outskirts of the District. They have vehicles and are not exposed to the lack of grocery stores and restaurants. The Liberty Road Corridor is an alley of liquor stores and gas stations. The residents of 10th District must travel to enjoy a meal with the family and invite friends.
